Latest RecipesOK, so we know that this dish, originating in Canada, is really just a hipster version of cheesy chips, but it is just so tasty (and apparently a great hangover cure too!) and works really well with ActiFried chips. This is my vegetarian take on it, which provides a generous portion for two.
4 medium sized potatoes
1 generous cupful of grated hard cheese (cheddar or gruyere work well).
... and for the veggie gravy:
1 onion
2 cloves garlic
1 large cupful vegetable bouillon or stock (approx 300ml)
Dash of dark sauce (veggie Worcester sauce works well)
1 tbsp plain flour
Wash the potatoes and, leaving the skin on, cut them into chips. Rinse them and pat dry with a cloth or kitchen towels.
Put the chips in the ActiFry tray, add a splash of olive oil and Actifry for 25 mins.
While that's going on, prepare the veggie gravy in this manner (if you're really lazy, you could just use veggie gravy granules but, trust me, this is far better):
Sauté the chopped onion and garlic in a little olive oil for 5 or 6 minutes.
Add the cupful of veggie bouillon/stock, the dash of dark sauce and stir well.
Simmer for another 3 or 4 minutes and stir in the flour to thicken the gravy.
When the chips have been Actifried for 25 minutes, open the ActiFry and carefully remove the paddle using a heat-proof glove. Spread the chips out evenly and sprinkle the chopped cheese over them. ActiFry for a further 2 minutes.
Serve immediately with the veggie gravy poured on top.
